elise freda
My source is nature. It is the jumping off point for my paintings, prints, drawings and collages. I find everything I need there: rich color, spatial relationships, shapes, lines, textures and layered depths. My studio is surrounded by mountains and fields and sky. I respond strongly to weather and changing light with its inherent drama and energy.
Water holds a particular place in my mind’s eye. Rivers, lakes, ponds and oceans all are eternally changing and teeming with imagery.
I like mystery and seek to create a sense of it in my abstract work. I like not knowing--and how through the process of creating my work --the unknown eventually becomes the known. This continuously inspires me…bringing me back to the blank paper and panel and beginning again.
