Karen m. krieger

With a sense of quietude and introspection, Karen Krieger’s contemporary ink and mixed media landscape paintings are meditative reflections on the natural world. Her paintings explore the simplicity of empty spaces and the essence of a mountain, the flow of water and the movement of mist.

Through her artwork she invites the viewer to enter their own contemplative space and sense of nature. She expresses this interior vision of a landscape through a nonrepresentational approach to her painting to elicit a feeling instead of replicating a specific scene in nature.

Karen takes an intuitive approach to creating her paintings by integrating traditional Chinese ink with her own combination of painting media including natural pigments, graphite and acrylic paint. She works on rice paper (xuan) which she then mounts onto canvas. This adds a dimensional texture to the painting’s finished surface.

Karen Krieger has been featured in several solo gallery exhibitions such as “Ancient Atmosphere, Distant Mountain”, “Convergence: Mist and Mountains” and “Natural Current: Mountain and Water”. Her artwork has been exhibited in U.S. and U.K. galleries and her paintings are in private collections both in the U.S. and in Europe. She paints out of her studio in Needham, MA at Gorse Mill Studios.
