Thanks to all who were able to join us on Saturday, November 4, to mark the opening of the dynamic exhibit SKYLINE, featuring the compelling work of Boston artist GARY KOEPPEL. The exhibit follows Koeppel’s three year journey capturing the ever-changing view of Boston outside his Roslindale art studio: the glorious daily, seasonal and atmospheric tones, shadows and highlights that naturally color the skyline. An impressive collection of over two dozen paintings, each the same 12x24 composition, sequentially numbered and labelled by date and time of day. Similar, yet different in so many ways.

Koeppel shares his inspiration … “During the Covid lockdown, I sat at my easel every day looking out the north-facing window at the Boston skyline. The endless variety of light and weather conditions took my breath away. I saw rapidly changing aspects of color and light that intensified my detachment from the outside world. What I was left with was a sense of longing. We all experience nature’s ever-changing nuances, her wonder. I became obsessed with the view and how it changed so quickly. I decided the best way to capture what I was after was to set my camera on a tripod and discover moments of interest, the evening’s magic hour before sunset, or a view at dawn—the difference of the sky from one day to the next at that same time or how the color scheme might change from spring to winter. I have been painting landscapes for more than half my life. The words of my art school professor still echo in my memory: if you want to learn a subject, paint it 50 times. I offer you the result of my learning.”
